TCM/Shonishin
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
TCM is an integral and gentle medical treatment with no adverse effects that serves the treatment of disorders and diseases as well as the maintenance of health.
TCM is designed to maintain or restore the balance between the opposing forces of Yin & Yang in the body. In order to achieve this the body must be viewed from a holistic and energetic perspective. The combination of various diagnostic procedures such as pulse diagnosis, tongue diagnosis, questioning and observation enable an overall impression of the patient’s physical and/or psychological disharmony. The imbalance is corrected by means of bringing Yin & Yang back into harmony.
The Chinese Medicine suits children, adults and elderly people. Regarding the treatment of children please refer to Shonishin.
TCM is used to treat acute and chronic complaints but is also of great usage for the purpose of rehabilitation.

TCM is applicable to a broad area of complaints and illnesses – to name just a few:
Gynecology
e.g. menstrual cramps, premenstrual syndrome, menopausal symptoms, uterine fibroids
Urology
e.g. bladder pain syndrome, urinary incontinence, prostate pain
Skin diseases
e.g. itching, psoriasis, melasma, atopic eczema, chronic urticaria
Respiration
e.g. hay fever, asthma, COPD
Accompanying therapy for pregnancy
e.g. fertility problems, nausea & vomiting, back pain, birth preparation
Digestion
e.g. bloating, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn’s disease
Musculoskeletal system
e.g. neck pain, back pain, knee pain, heel pain, shoulder pain, post-operative pain, ankle sprain, tennis elbow, whiplash, spinal stenosis, knee osteoarthritis, temporomandibular joint pain, fibromyalgia
Nervous system
e.g. chronic headaches, exhaustion (chronic fatigue syndrome), fascial paresis, sciatic pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, migraine prophylaxis, restless legs syndrome, vascular cognitive complaints
Mental illness & addiction
e.g. support for depression, postnatal depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, smoking cessation, obesity)
Accompanying therapy for tumor diseases
e.g. chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, vomiting and nausea, hot flushes, dry mouth, insomnia and psychological complaints
Depending on the symptoms different applications are used:
Acupuncture

In acupuncture, acupoints (specific spots on the body that operate as gates to regulate vital energy) are stimulated with a thin needle. These spots can also be triggered manually or by applying a medical laser.
The main indications are the treatment of chronic pain as well as functional and psychosomatic disorders.
Tuina

Tuina is a form of massage that is applied to the energy channels and acupoints.
With its influence on connective tissue, fascia, muscles, ligaments and joints, it is particularly effective, but by no means exclusively, for musculoskeletal complaints.
Med. mushrooms

Medical mushrooms contain many valuable micronutrients that are of importance for the functioning of the body and maintenance of its health. Micronutrients are involved in numerous metabolic processes such as cell division, hormone production, immune defence, etc.
They are available powdered in capsule in means of food supplements.
Moxibustion

Is a heat therapy where acupoints or meridians are warmed. Traditionally dried leaves of the plant “Asian artemisia” are burned which generate a comfortable, long-lasting and deep warmth.
CUPPING

Cupping is a clearing methode.
Cups are placed on the skin which create suction underneath.
Guasha

This is a clearing methode.
It is a scraping technique on oiled skin and is usually applied to the back and neck.
Auriculoacupuncture

Short needles are inserted at the reflexion points of the ear (auricle).
Permanent needles might also be used and get covered with a skin-coloured plaster.
Advice on TCM dietary according to the five elements, Qi Gong exercises and, if necessary, the use of medical mushrooms are useful additions to the treatment and will be considered individually, if required.
Your health is precious – care for it
More about the treatment
The treatment takes place on an electrically adjustable massage table. TCM is suitable for both young and elderly people and is adapted to the circumstances. Shonishin is particularly suitable for younger children (0 – 12 to 14 years old).
More about the duration
The initial consultation lasts approx. 90 minutes for anamnesis including treatment. Follow-up appointments are usually 60 minutes long.
Acute concerns usually require shorter intervals and fewer sessions than chronic complaints do.
More about the dress code
Acupuncture is applied directly on the skin, hence, you are dressed in your underwear only. A heat lamp will keep you warm. Tuina can be practised on light clothing as well as directly on the skin.
Shonishin
The Japanese acupuncture without needles especially developed for children
This form of treatment is suitable for children with developmental or adjustment disorders which result in perceptual or behavioural problems and may even end up in complaints or illnesses if untreated.
Shonishin provides the possibility to make better use of the child’s regulatory capacity. By that the child can react more appropriately to adverse or changing influences in order to avoiding persistent disorders.
The treatment supports the developmental steps which have not fully matured yet.
A special pen-like instrument is applied directly to the skin in the form of gentle stroking, tapping and vibration techniques which are painless and pleasant for the child.
The stimuli applied to the skin in the areas of energy channels, acupoints and zones of reflexology have a regulating effect on the energetic and autonomic nervous system
Common areas of application are:

ADD, ADHD
Allergies
Bedwetting
Bronchial asthma
Bronchitis
Crying babies
Developmental delay
Difficulty in drinking
Digestive disorders
Hemiplegia
Movement abnormality
Neurodermatitis
Perceptual/behavioural abnormalties
Posture disorders
Sleeping disorder
Susceptibility to infections
Swallowing disorder
Upper cervical-induced symmetry disorder
More about the treatment
The treatment takes either place on the massage table or in the arms of the parent, depending on the age and behaviour of the child.
More about the dress code
The child wears a nappy or its underwear while the treatment is applied directly to the skin.
What do you need to bring along?
For infants please bring along its own changing mat, sufficient spare nappies and spare clothes.
More about the duration
The time of treatment is shorter for children than it is for adults. The same applies to the duration of the therapy. The initial assessment of the issues and complaints of the child is handled by telephone so that the first physical contact can be kept short and focused on the treatment. When booking Shonishin online or by e-mail, please state it, so that we can arrange for a telephone call first.
More on the evolution of TCM
TCM stands for Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is thousands of years old and is based on the Chinese philosophical understanding that all processes in nature take place in a polar-behavioural context. The field of tension between the poles is regarded as the source of life energy (Yin & Yang). The therapeutic procedures of TCM are acupuncture, Tuina massage, Chinese herbal remedies, dietary according to the five elements and Qi Gong.
From 1960 onwards, China began to increasingly reflect on its own culture. In the West, there was intensive research into acupuncture and eventually it started to spread out. To date acupuncture is applied worldwide.
TCM has a differentiated diagnostic system to regulate the balance of body, mind and soul. This includes tongue and pulse diagnosis.
More on the evolution of Shonishin
In the early 20th century, Shonishin was developed in Japan as a form of therapy for infants and children without the use of needles.
Shonishin is based on the principles of traditional Chinese and Japanese medicine and has been further developed in terms of its diagnostics and with regards to movement, sensory, emotions and energetics of the respective stages of development.
